Returnees Study

- adaptation and opportunities of migrant students who return to their hometowns

Objectives of Study

Students who follow their parents' footsteps in migrating to cities (some of which even born in the cities) ultimately face the question of whether or not they should return to their hukou locality for further schooling. What are the obstacles and opportunities for fulfilling the goals migrant families had in mind when making the tough decision to send the children back home? Are there factors that improve the chances for "success" upon returning? In this study, we follow some Beijing migrant students who choose to return to their hometown of Hebei to see how they adapt.
