Student Attrition Study

- understanding the movement of migrant students in and out of urban schools

Objectives of Study

  • Migrant students are highly mobile, moving in and out of urban schools because of reasons such as family reunion, relocation of parents, and better education opportunities. Using enrolment and other data from two urban migrant schools, this study investigates the scale, timing and reasons for students who move in and out of schools, including the characteristics of students with high mobility.
  • Frequent school change is associated with academic motivation and performance. The study seeks to understand the current situation and how their resilience may be strengthened.
  • Results of the study help to track the trajectory of migrant students and document their educational pathways.
