Shanghai Project: The History of Development of Research and Training Center For Youth Education in Mental Health

  1. In September 2003, The Youth Foundation and East China Normal University officially signed the partnership agreement of “School-based Counseling Training” Project to fully support, from infrastructure to training, the counseling center for development of youth mental health education. The project commenced with the preparation of continuous training programs, from theoretical techniques to actual personal development, for the experienced youth workers in the community.
  2. In September 2006, The Youth Foundation and East China Normal University cooperatively commenced the general application research on youth mental health education, and the training for youth education workers under the signed agreement of “The Co-development of Research and Training Center For Youth Education in Mental Health in Partnership of The Youth Foundation and East China Normal University”. In December 2006, East China Normal University’s Research and Training Center For Youth Education in Mental Health was set up and led by Zhang Qi as the Center Manager, Ye Bin as the Director, Professor Zhao Xiao Qing from Shanghai University and Professor Dr. Xu Zhe Ning from The Institute of Youth and Juvenile Studies of Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences as the Supervisors, and frontline youth work professionals from The Youth Foundation as the overseas Supervisors. By focusing on the youth workers from primary and secondary schools, social enterprises and institutions as the backbone, the center aimed to develop the culture of resilience in Shanghai.
  3. In October 2009, East China Normal University and The Youth Foundation signed the supplementary agreement of “The Co-development of Research and Training Center For Youth Education in Mental Health in Partnership of The Youth Foundation and East China Normal University” to continue the partnership on providing high-quality professional training and organizing adolescent mental health education and cultural exchange activities for local and nationwide youth workers.
